11 images for 4"x4" vegetable series
A-K linoleum block plates for vegetable alphabet series. The image will be reversed when printed. I am having so much fun creating this series.
Carrots overrode cauliflower as the image to be used for the letter "C" in the series.
Cauliflower was the first letter "C" image for the series. Didn't feel quite right, so carrots was done as another option.
Leeks
Leeks block.
Drying
The first prints pulled for the vegetable series blocks. Usually takes 4-10 days to dry thoroughly enough to be hand-colored or framed. Caligo ink used on 100% rag Rives BFK. BFK is the initials of the name of the owners of the paper mill in Rives, France where these papers were first made in the early 19th century - Blanchet Frées and Kiebler. 100% rag indicates that the fibers are made from a natural material (e.g. cotton, linen, hemp, etc.) and not wood or other materials that contain acids which deteriorate the paper over time. 100% rag papers are much more expensive than other papers but are archival and can last for centuries.
Mushrooms
Mushrooms block for vegetable series.
Nasturtiums
Nasturtiums for the letter "N" in the vegetable series.
Okra
Block for the "O" letter in the vegetable alphabet series.
Peppers
Letter "P" block.
Quinoa
The tiny quinoa seeds grow in clusters on an upright stalk. I've taken liberties with the proportions of the vegetables in all of these images. Obviously the larger quinoa in the right bottom of the block are much larger in proportion to those shown on the plant.
Radishes
Both the leaves and bulbs of radishes are eaten.
Shallots
The shallots block was the first one made using my new, very high quality Pfeil cutting tools. What a difference from the Speedball disposable tools I have been using for years. These, and a magnifying desk lamp made it so much easier to get delicate detail.
Tomatoes
Beans
Made two blocks for beans. Decided the first was better and this is the first print from this block.
Artichokes. 4"x4" hand-colored linocut.
In progress linocut with watercolors. Haven't decided on a background color yet.
